You can read all kinds of advice about preferred page length, desirable font size, format, style, white space, organization, and structure with regard to resumes. When preparing your resume, most of the decisions you will make are subjective; they can be argued either way, with no answer being absolutely wrong or right. How, then, do you know what to do when putting together your resume? To reduce resume writing to its essential core, I've developed three core rules that will help you write a resume that captures the interest of employers and generate more job interviews.

Be correct. Carelessness on your resume can cost you a job offer or a job. Make absolutely certain all the facts on your resume are correct: dates of employment, contact information, company names, claims to fame. An obvious error will send your resume immediately to the garbage pale; lies or distortions discovered during a reference check or even after hiring will cause you to lose the job.

Be clear and focused when writing your resume. Don't leave readers wondering about the kind or level of position you're interested in. Rather then taking time to figure it out, busy hiring authorities will quickly put your resume in the recycling bin. Don't confuse your resume with unrelated, irrelevant information or write your resume so generally and broadly that the reader is puzzled as to your professional interests. Make sure your skills, expertise, and potential are crystal clear and sharply focused on your resume.

Prove it. In a survey taken among successful job seekers, the factor they felt was most important to their ability to generate job interviews was the inclusion of measurable accomplishments and results on their resumes. When writing your resume, don't make unsubstantiated claims of greatness; back up your statements with evidence in the form of measurable, verifiable results he you've achieved for past employers.

By following these three core principles when writing your resume of being correct, focused and supplying measurable accomplishments in your resume you will see your contact from potential employers for job interviews go up.
